Final movement of the Oxford narrowboat

The same boat had to be moved to a marina several miles away a week later. The local authorities and the Environment Agency (EA) did not want the road closed whilst a crane was set up to lift the boat onto a low loader. We devised a plan where we could use the NRC to lift one end of the boat. The low loader was set up to replicate the angle of the boat hull and it was reversed beneath as far as possible. The winch from the low loader was rigged to assist the loading, it had rained heavily and the ground was very wet. This made the job much more difficult. The boat was loaded and secured. The low loader was then escorted to the marina.

Room was quite restricted here also. There was only one area that we were allowed to use for the crane legs etc. It was considered that the concrete was insufficient in its strength in other areas at the yard. There was a line of fuel pumps at either end of the marina, and also a bridge that crossed on the river side further reducing our options.

We set the NRC up at the lower end of the jetty. The trailer was reversed in on an angle with the rear most axle on the edge of the wall. This gave just enough room for the 1075 once the tractor unit was removed. We set chains etc up as required. The NRC rotated clockwise whereas the 1075 anticlockwise, and we were able to lift the boat from the trailer and lower it back into the water where it will be moored until repairs take place.
