24T Machine Overturns

Post by MGC » Mon Oct 26, 2015 6:21 pm

This machine ended up in an unfortunate position after slipping off a ramp whilst loading. The field was lower than the road and the machine had an excessively long reach, which created a high centre of gravity. Fortunately, the machine operator was fine, but it did land quite heavily going over centre and the dipper boom dug deep into the field.

We decided to use both rotators and set them up back to back, rigged to give a lift of the boom and pull on the track frame at the same time. One of the spare winches on the 1075 was used as a catch line. As the machine began to come up, we reached a calculated point where we would support the machine with the 1075 and move the NRC forwards as the turn table of the machine was slightly at an angle with the track ram. This would have resulted in the bucket sitting on the NRC!!

Once the machine was stabilised, some time was spent ensuring the engine etc was not damaged, and also that oil would not be drawn into the combustion chamber once the engine was started. We ran the machine up and supported it whilst it was repositioned in the field below.
