Artic jackknifed on M25

This was called in as a fairly simple jackknife. The traffic was horrendous as there is now no hard shoulder on much of the M25. Getting through to the incident was borderline impossible, it took 90mins to get from J5 to Clacket Lane! Most car drivers seem to do their utmost to stop you from getting through as they think you are jumping the queue. They take no notice of any lights or warnings you may have, not realising that the more time you spend in traffic, the later they will be.

Apparently, the artic was following another large vehicle. A van had broken down on the live lane, the first HGV moved out, leaving this 2nd one in an awkward position as the driver already had other vehicles to his off side. He hit the van and the truck went out of control, punching a hole through the new concrete crash barrier.

The rotator was ideal for this job as it was able to pull the chassis from beneath the trailer, lift and realign the cab, the underlift just pushing it back into place. It was strapped up and made secure before being recovered back to base. The motorway had to be resurfaced due to diesel spillage and the crash barrier needed major repairs. The road was restricted for a number of hours, and this unfortunately led to another accident on the M26, which we also attended. Unfortunately the outcome of that one wasn't so good...
