Road-planer sinks into London gas main

Post by mick » Thu Oct 10, 2013 5:16 pm

We were called to assist with a 27ton road-planer which had sunk into a gas main after removing the road surface. It was necessary to support and lift the machine and then slew it round onto what was believed to be a suitable surface. Space was tight and there were concerns over the ability of the remaining surface to carry both the rotator and the road-planer whilst lifting. A block and plate were used under the right hand leg of the rotator and its movement monitored whilst the lift took place. The machine was lifted out and continued its work.
